About the role

Order Life Cycle / Fulfillment Management
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our International Order Management & Fulfillment team. You'll design, build, and scale the backend systems that power the complete order life cycle — from order creation through fulfillment and delivery — across multiple international markets including Mexico (MX), Canada (CA), and other emerging geographies.
This is a high-impact role where you'll work on large-scale, multi-market distributed systems that handle millions of transactions daily. You'll drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and partner closely with product, architecture, and cross-functional teams to deliver world-class order management and fulfillment capabilities for Walmart International.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build highly scalable, resilient backend services for Order Management Systems (OMS) and Fulfillment Management Systems (FMS) serving multiple international markets (MX, CA, and beyond).
- Architect and implement multi-tenant / multi-market solutions that support locale-specific business rules, tax regulations, fulfillment models, and delivery SLAs across geographies.
- Lead the technical design of core order life cycle domains: order capture, orchestration, inventory reservation, fulfillment routing, shipping, and post-order flows (returns, cancellations, modifications).
- Build event-driven, microservices-based architectures using Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, and NoSQL databases to ensure high throughput and low latency at scale.
- Drive platform convergence efforts — unifying order and fulfillment platforms across markets to reduce duplication and accelerate speed-to-market for new geographies.
- Partner with Data Engineering and Data Science teams to enable AI/ML-driven capabilities such as intelligent order routing, demand forecasting integration, and anomaly detection in fulfillment pipelines.
- Champion engineering excellence: code quality, observability, testing strategies, CI/CD best practices, and production readiness.
- Mentor and grow engineers on the team through design reviews, pair programming, and technical leadership.
- Contribute to incident response and operational excellence for Tier-0/1 systems critical to Walmart International's ecommerce operations
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend development.
- Deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot ecosystem — Spring MVC, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security.
- Strong experience with NoSQL databases (Cassandra, Cosmos DB, MongoDB, or similar) and understanding of data modeling trade-offs for high-scale systems.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka, message queues, and asynchronous processing patterns (CQRS, Event Sourcing).
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale — microservices, API gateways, service mesh, container orchestration (Kubernetes/WCNP).
- Familiarity with relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and caching layers (Redis, Memcached).
- Experience supporting multi-market / multi-tenant platforms with locale-aware business logic, internationalization (i18n), and cross-border considerations.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native development on Azure or GCP — managed services, infrastructure as code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with AI/ML literacy and applications — understanding of how machine learning models are integrated into production systems, leveraging GenAI/LLM tools for developer productivity (e.g., code generation, automated testing, intelligent debugging), and staying current with AI-driven engineering practices.
- Exposure to observability stacks — Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, distributed tracing (Jaeger/Zipkin).
- Experience with feature flagging, A/B testing, and progressive rollout strategies for multi-market deployments.
- Proficiency in system design, domain-driven design (DDD), and API design (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).
- Track record of leading technical initiatives, driving architecture decisions, and influencing without authority across teams.
- Nice to Have
- Prior experience in Order Management, Fulfillment, Supply Chain, or eCommerce domain systems.
- Familiarity with OMS platforms (Sterling, custom-built) and fulfillment orchestration patterns.
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical community leadership.
- Why Join Us
- Build systems that serve millions of customers across multiple countries — your code powers real commerce at massive scale.
- Work at the intersection of complex distributed systems and international business challenges — localization, compliance, cross-border logistics.
- Be part of a team that's converging and modernizing international OMS/FMS platforms, with greenfield opportunities to shape the next-gen architecture.
- Leverage cutting-edge AI and GenAI tools to accelerate development and drive innovation in how we build and operate software.
- Collaborate with world-class engineering talent across Walmart Global Tech in a culture that values ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
