About the role
As a Lead Engineer in the team, you will develop and enhance applications that enable securities and tax processing across national and international markets, supporting Deutsche Bank business units on one of Germany’s highest-volume processing platforms (processing more than 20 million transactions per year). The applications you develop support critical post-trade workflows, including order management for funds, securities settlement, and associated event and income processing, as well as custody and asset servicing processes (including general meetings support, safekeeping, and custody operations). You will also help advance systems that reduce manual effort by automating standard workloads.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end activities required to deliver assigned development work and defect fixes.
- Review code through the pull request process, identifying critical issues (for example, defects or security concerns) and maintaining high standards of code quality.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Contribute to software and solution design activities and collaborate with business analysts to shape and refine new features.
- Perform analysis, development, testing, debugging, and defect remediation for assigned user stories and bug fixes.
- Implement required functionality using appropriate Java technologies and agreed engineering standards.
- Create and maintain automated unit tests for developed code.
- Identify and recommend improvements to existing Java applications and engineering processes.
- Integrate changes with related user stories and contributions from other team members.
- Support deployment activities across development, integration, and UAT environments in line with release processes.
- Produce and maintain appropriate project and technical documentation.
- Meet agreed service levels (SLAs) for assigned defects and support items.
- Deliver development outcomes in line with agreed delivery targets and KPIs.
- Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset and adapt to new technologies as required by the project.
- Coach and mentor junior team members to support their development and delivery effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience (12+ years) as a software engineer, with strong familiarity with Agile delivery practices.
- Hands-on experience with Core Java and Java EE technologies, including JSF, JAX-WS, EJB, Hibernate/JPA, JMS, and SQL.
- Practical experience with build tools (preferably Maven), distributed version control (Git), and continuous integration systems (preferably TeamCity).
- Experience working with Java application servers (for example, WebLogic) and relational databases (for example, Oracle).
- Demonstrated track record of driving engineering excellence and improving team delivery practices.
- Exposure to application technologies like Spring Boot and Quarkus is desirable.
- Exposure to front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is desirable.
- Exposure to JSF component libraries (for example, PrimeFaces) is desirable.
- Experience with messaging technologies (for example, ActiveMQ) is desirable.
- Good understanding of industry-standard build, deployment, release, and application support processes, including CI/CD and incident/problem/change management.
- Experience in application performance tuning is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent), with significant experience in Java development; a graduate degree in Engineering or Management is an advantage.
- German language skills are an advantage.
