About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Application Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and ensuring the stability, performance, and availability of our critical business applications. This role requires a strong understanding of application environments, troubleshooting methodologies, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Responsibilities: - Provide timely and effective technical support for production applications, including incident management, problem resolution, and root cause analysis.
- Monitor application health and performance using tools such as AppDynamics and Splunk, identifying and proactively addressing potential issues.
- Manage and maintain application web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx, IIS, Tomcat), ensuring optimal configuration and performance.
- Automate and schedule batch jobs and workflows using job scheduling tools, specifically Autosys.
- Perform system administration tasks on Unix/Linux platforms, including scripting, file system management, and user administration.
- Collaborate with development teams to implement application enhancements, bug fixes, and system upgrades.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical applications.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for application configurations, support procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance operational efficiency.
- Required Skills Operating Systems:
- Strong proficiency in Unix/Linux operating systems, including command-line interface, scripting (Shell, Python), and system administration.
- Application Servers:
Qualifications: - with common application web servers such as Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, or IIS.
- Job Scheduling: Hands-on experience with job scheduling tools, particularly Autosys.
- Monitoring & Logging:
- Proficient in using application performance monitoring (APM) tools like AppDynamics and log management and analysis tools like Splunk.
- Troubleshooting: Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues.
- Networking: Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S).
- Databases: Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) and ability to write basic SQL queries.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in an application support or similar technical role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., Unix/Linux administration, ITIL) are a plus.
